When students use doodle notes…

The two hemispheres of the brain collaborate to increase focus.

Students become excited, engaged, and attentive (even those who you would not normally expect to!)

Referential connections between the visual and linguistic centers for processing information in the brain lead to more input being converted to long-term memory. Retention is increased.

Students interact with visual triggers that boost their memory for the lesson material.

Students are proud of their creative work on their page and suddenly begin pulling out their notes sheets consistently to review, show them off, and reference them as a study guide.

Added bonuses include relaxation, coordination, and a boost in problem-solving skills.

Types of Science Doodle Notes

SINGLE TOPIC

These are usually one or two page doodle notes that cover a single topic with grade-appropriate details. These focus on a specific topic such as cells or volcanoes.  The notes zoom in on one big topic and go into details on that concept only.

Note: Most of these doodle notes include a set of teacher slides for clicking through the doodle note page item by item!

NGSS VOCAB SETS

These are a large set of vocabulary doodle notes that are organized by standard.  The idea is to review the vocabulary that supports learning of each standard. Each page has the standard at the top and covers around 3 vocabulary words relating to disciplinary core ideas related to the standard.

The NGSS Vocabulary Doodle Notes are available for each middle school science standard. These NGSS doodle notes work well in large sets because the vocabulary overlaps across and standards and spirals to build deeper understanding across disciplines. They can be used individually, but they are intended to be used as a complete set.
